My College Journey and What I’ve Learned

“It could be that where you are right now will equip you for where you are going.”- Proverbs 31 Ministries

I never once understood why the Lord called me to college. It frustrated me to no ends over the years because I felt many times that I was wasting my time. Teaching myself more things than my actual classes, working my butt off on assignments that I saw no purpose in. Not enjoying my classes and just overall feeling like I have taught myself more things than college ever could.

I still don’t know exactly why the Lord called to college, but a boss of mine told me before my senior year maybe your in college so you can get your diploma and unfortunately that sheet of paper will take you that much further in life compared to if you didn’t have it.

Its funny because I’m the first person to tell you that you do not need a college education to become successful. I never wanted to go to college and I never thought I was smart enough to get accepted. I was no an A student in high school and I was always the student working 10x harder to get a C.

I guess I’m saying life is crazy and when you follow Gods plan instead of your own that doesn’t mean it’s going to be automatically easy. There were so many times I wanted to throw in the towel and give up and quit school because I never found purpose in it, but at the end of the day I knew the Lord called me to it and I couldn’t give that up and that He was going to use all this, some how, for His glory!

I am extremely thankful I stuck with it. There is something to be said about remaining faithful in the midst of hard things and not giving up when it gets hard or when you don’t enjoy it.

I felt so inadequate applying to college and throughout my classes, but when you choose to follow Christ you don’t have to do it on your own. If you have given your life over to the Lord it’s not your life anymore. It’s Christ who lives in and through you for this is why we are able to do anything. Which is how I got through all the papers, through all the speeches, through all the classes that I saw no purpose in. God was doing something so much bigger behind the scenes.

The funny thing is God knows everything about us and he knows all of our excuses, but He’s still calling us. He specifically called you for that job or for you to go to that school in that season of life in that location etc. No one knows you better and you can trust the plans He has for you.

If there is anything that I have learned through college, it is I felt so inadequate for the things I was doing but God doesn’t care about those things. He just wants willing people to be obedient to Him and trust Him with every step of the way.

If God is calling you to do something, but you don’t feel qualified enough or smart enough (1000% me), you don’t have enough money or enough resources or whatever excuse you have. Just do it! God always remains faithful and following Him you simply cannot go wrong.

“Such confidence we have through Christ toward God. Not that we are adequate in ourselves to consider anything as coming from ourselves, but our adequacy is from God,”- 2 Corinthians 3:4-5
